Vote Animals Count on 4th JuneOn 9th May we officially presented our election campaign and manifesto to our members at our second Party Conference in London. The members were moved by the election video clip and pledged their active support for the coming weeks.




team vegan descending from last mountain, Ben NevisOn 2-3 May three fit vegans successfully climbed the three highest peaks in Wales, England and Scotland in 23h and 25 mins despite arctic conditions on Ben Nevis in Scotland, complete darkness and fog on Scafell Pike and lack of a non-climbing driver. Congratulations and many thanks!


Richard Deboo heading the march on World Day for Animals in LaboratoriesAnimals Count President, veterinarian and scientist Andrew Knight, gave a talk about the lack of scientific efficiency of animal models for human healthcare advancement, and Animals Count member Richard Deboo gave a talk about Animals Count's policies on animal experimentation, at the World Day for Animals in Laboratories on 25th April 2009.

Jasmijn and Nicholas BallEastEnders actor Nicholas Ball kicked off Animals Count's EU election campaign which was successfully launched during the Incredible Veggie Show on 18th April. We are very grateful to Nicholas, Ayda, Eve, Charles, Alex, Fiona, Peter, Wayne, Richard, and Mary for their help!


Animals Count stall at the Brighton Vegan FayreAnimals Count had a good day at the Brighton Vegan Fayre on 21st March. Thanks a lot to Fiona for her great help, and to Ayda, Charles, Eve and Alex!




Jasmijn gives a talk at Trafalgar SquareOn 22 February, Jasmijn gave a talk at Trafalgar Square about world poverty (having visited a slum in Lahore, Pakistan three days before), and reducing global warming by reducing the consumption of animal products.



sponsored walk participantsOn Sunday 8th February 14 people joined a sponsored walk in sunny London, raising over £500! Added to previous donations, we have now secured the deposit to contest the European Parliament elections on 4th June. See Indymedia for more information. Thanks to everyone who made this a great success and fun experience!

March against climate changeOn 6th December Animals Count members participated in the global march against climate change, and educated the public about the link between the livestock industry and global warming. This issue is still not taken seriously by policy and decision-makers...


Christmas fundraising dinnerTo raise vital funds for the 2009 European Parliament elections we held a Fundraising Christmas dinner and fun auction at the Indian Veggie restaurant in Angel, London on 12th December. We raised over £600. Thanks to everyone who attended! We still need to raise at least £2,000 to be able to contest an area in the 2009 elections.


6 December: Four Animals Count members joined the Climate Change march and educated members of the public about the link between livestock farming and global warming.

30 November: The Christmas Without Cruelty Fair was very successful and we received a lot of interest.

18 November: Andrew Knight, Animals Count President, gave a presentation entitled 'The Making of Animals Count,' at the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics.

Jasmijn at Wolverhampton Vegan FairAnimals Count had a stall at the Wolverhampton Vegan Fair on 1st November. New members Anisha (veterinarian) and Jackie (new Animals Count Secretary) came along to help. Thanks a lot!

On Saturday 25th October we had a stall at the Leicester Vegan Fair.





Andrew and Jasmijn at London Vegan FestivalIn September we were at the London Vegan Festival. We were also interviewed by Supreme Master TV, we launched a greyhound initiative, and we were busy preparing for the first Animals Count Party Conference on the 4th of October in Birmingham.

Ealing animal welfare bazaar © Animals CountThe Ealing animal welfare bazaar on March first was successful. Thank you to Peter, Wayne, Gawain, and Marjolein (who came all the way from the Netherlands to help Animals Count!).






Climate march About 10,000 people joined the Climate Change march despite the rain, wind and cold. At least 50-70 veg*n activists handed out leaflets about the link between livestock farming and climate change. Despite the fact that this contributes to 18% of all global warming gases, only Green Party MEP Caroline Lucas mentioned this in her speech. Alex and Jasmijn walked at the front of the march and when we reached the American Embassy we were interviewed by a freelance journalist.

Tomorrow is our anniversary as we celebrate successfully launching the party last year during the CWC Fayre.




Animals Count logo © Animals CountOn 28th November 2007 Jasmijn de Boo attended an evening of talks by lawyers from the Association of Lawyers for Animal Welfare (ALAW). The topics included 'International trade law and the protection of animals' and 'A year in animal protection; a review of important cases and developments in the law over the past year'.

Spitalfield show © Animals CountAnimals Count Chair, Jasmijn de Boo, attended and raised a critical question at the Labour Animal Welfare Society meeting on 25th September 2007 (see here for report).
Alex, Cathy, Andrew and Jasmijn were at the Spitalfield Show and Green Fair on 16th September 2007.

Bristol Vegan Fayre © Animals Count The Bristol Vegan Fayre (9th and 10th June 2007) has been the largest vegan festival in the UK so far. Membership of Animals Count grew with at least ten percent and hundreds of people were interested in our party. Thanks to Cathy, Lorraine, Rob, Kirsten, Claire, June, Menna, Alex, Andrew and Jasmijn!
